First Communion

On Sunday August 19th all the grade 4's went to church and we received Jesus in the form the first Eucharist and some people received a blessing.  The grade 4's have taken another step closer to Jesus.

Madeleine - the grade 4's looked lovely in their clothes and they did well walking up to the altar to get the bread for the first time
Nick - We were all very happy. After, the Mass we went into the hall and had our breakfast. Then we all went home - some of us had parties with our families
Laura - receiving my Holy Communion means I'm taking a step closer to Jesus and I'm in his family. Everyone looked lovely in their dresses and suits
Georgia - I thought it was special because we had our family there and I think it was nice that they were there to support us. I really enjoyed it
Gemma - I really enjoyed it because we got to see everyone in their clothes and we got to receive the bread. When we went to the hall it was fun because we got to have our mini breakfast. My uncle and aunty kept coming up to me and taking photos, which was surprising
Daniel - Receiving my first communion made me feel closer to God. Coming up to receive the bread was special
Amber - I got a special blessing and I felt really welcomed when the other grade 4's made their first communion.
Matt - I really enjoyed my first communion because it was a fun day, I got to sing up at the altar and everyone looked really fancy in their clothes. It was really nice that the parents made a breakfast after our Mass. We received special medals for making our First Communion

Photos from the day can be seen on Middle C's blog http://middlechampions.global2.vic.edu.au/2012/08/21/first-communion-day/

AFL Sports lesson

Today Ciaran, Matthew and Daniel ran a lesson teaching us AFL skills.
Here is a slide show of our lesson (done in our pyjamas as it was PJ day, when the whole school raises money for the homeless)
Reflections to follow...
Tessa - I liked the footy lesson because I learnt some new drills but I didn't like playing in my PJ's
Amber - I really enjoyed the footy lesson. It wasn't too over the top and it was good because we didn't have to do too much tackling
Rosie -  I liked doing footy skills because I liked learning different things. I didn't mind being in my PJ's and it was really fun
Chloe - I really liked doing the footy lesson because I learnt new things while I played and what to do while playing it and I liked playing in my PJ's

Our Excursion to the MCG...

...and the National Sports Museum.
Yesterday, the Middles pile onto one bus and travelled into the city to visit the Melbourne Cricket Ground and the National Sports Museum. We had a one hour tour of the MCG and then spent some time discovering new things about the hsitory of the Olympics in the Museum. After this, we tried our hands (and feet) at some interactive sports/activities in Game On.
Our focus of Inquiry this term is Cultural Diversity and below are some of the things we noticed on our excursion that relate to this topic:
- The records at the MCG were from different countries, not just Australia
- The MCG staff told us about the history of cricket in other countries
- The first Test Team to travel to England to play cricket were Aboriginal
- Different countries have different flags, uniforms, mascots and torches
- All the cricket teams from other countries who visit the MCG to play are given their own rooms
- During the Ancient Olympics a wreath was used instead of medals
