Our reflections on our St Patrick's Day

On Friday, our school celebrated St Patrick's Day by dressing up in green and eating green food. In the afternoon, Fintan did the "World's Greatest Shave" I wonder whether the Preps liked the day since it was their first time  - Madeline
Fintan did this to raise money for cancer/Leukemia - Natalie
The Social Justice Team were the ones who set up the stalls. It was a very brave effort that he shaved his hair off in front of the whole school. I wonder if anyone else will do this at our school? - Jack
Fintan raised over $1000!! When it happened I was freaked out and scared, because I had never seen someone shave their hair at school before - Kitty
When Fintan got his head shaved we found out how much we raised for him and what Fintan raised on his own - Alex
I was very surprised that Fintan got more than a $1000 and I was excited when I was going to see his hair shaved off - Adam
I was also excited about Fintan shaving his head and I think we all suppoerted him for Leukemia - Ruby

Our handspans

Today in Middle S we discussed what handspans are and how they are used as a way to measure length, width and height. We traced our own hands, cut them out and measured (in centimetres) our handspan. Then we ordered them from smallest to longest. The majority of our class has a handspan of 15cm. The shortest was 12 cms and the longest was 20cms.

Celebrations - Our Questions and Knowledge

This week we pondered the different celebrations we have in our families and community. We have created this "Lino" to display one wondering/question and one thing we know about celebrations. To see all the different sticky notes drag the mouse across the rainbow 'lino'.

Marvellous Maths

Middle S are flexing their Mathematics muscles this week by tackling the four operations and identifying them in worded problems. After un-packing the language of addition and subtraction, they applied the specific vocabulary to solving problems such as these:

- Anne bought an orange for $0.45 and a yoghurt for $1.20 at the school canteen. How much did she spend?

- Jason team kicked 32 goals during the game and Dean's team kicked 25 goals. How many goals did Jason's team win by?

SRC

Today the Middles classes made their choice of students to be on the Student Representative Council. Each class voted for one grade 3 and one grade 4 to represent their year level, as well as the school.
:) Each person had to get in front of our class and give their speech. All the students delivered fantastic speeches that were very well prepared. The one's below belong to James and Jasmine, who were voted as the SRC reps for Middle S.

A New Start for Middle S

On Friday it was our first day of school in Middle S. I was really excited to see my sisters at playtime because now we're all at the same school - Angus
In the morning I was thinking, "yay', I'm in Middle S. I wasn't the only one who was excited. My sister, Caitlin started Prep today - Madeline
It felt like a normal day for me - Adam
I like finishing a year, becasue you get to see yourself in a new class and you get to see the new little Preppies. My sister is in grade 6, so she was as excited as anyone should be being in the head of the school  - Natalie
I like to finish a year because then I get to be in a higher grade - James
I love moving into a new class because you get to have new people in your class and a new teacher - Jasmine
I like being in a new class because you make more friends - Alex
In the morning I felt a bit nervous but now I'm feeling more confident. Today it's my big sister's first day of her last year at primary School and my little sister's first day of Prep - Catriona
When I first got into class I was a bit nervous and then when I saw my friends come in I was fine - Ruby
I loved to make new friends every year and make new things and step up to a different grade - Rosie
This morning I was nervous and excited then when the day went on I got more confident. I like having different teachers so you can learn more about what they do in the classroom - Jamie
