Magnets

Today we explored the properties of magnets using different shaped magnets and a variety of materials. Here is what we discovered:

•  Magnets have a magnetic force which attracts to a north and a south side of a magnet - Lachie
• If you put a magnet on a computer the computer will break - Jake
• Magnets attach  to other magnets - Molly
• I found out that north and north repel same with south and south but north and south connect -Cooper, Jamie
• Most magnets connect to paper clips – Ryan, Jenny
• Magnets stick to hair clips. Magnets don’t stick to windows - NATALIA
• A north magnet cannot stick to a north magnet. It is the same as a south magnet – GRACE
• Magnets are made out of atoms. The magnets don’t stick to the clock, but if you turn the clock around it will stick to the batteries at the back of the clock - Sienna
• Magnets only stick to metal that includes iron and 2 or 3 other types of metal - Adol

Rite of Reconciliation

On Saturday, some of the grade 3’s celebrated their First Reconciliation.

Our First Reconciliation is where you say sorry to the priest and are forgiven. It’s a way of reuniting with God. These are our thoughts about the day – Molly

First we had to go to Father and we said things we had done in the past and we wanted Father to forgive us for what we did not do right. We don’t tell these things to others very often, but this is a way to tell someone what we've done wrong and it feels better  - Natalia

We would come up with our parents and we said a special prayer with Father – Oscar

When we finished talking to father our parents took us to light our candle – Sienna

It feels good to say what you’re sorry for and that you won’t do it again – Jack

Student Art Lessons

Last week, Cooper ran an art class. He asked everyone to put sticky tape in a cool design, on an A3 sheet of white paper, colour it in, then take off the tape.

Our first science experiment

James – today we did an experiment with different temperatures of water and putting sugar in each cup to see what it did.
Jenny – at the end of our experiment we put it in the fridge and tomorrow we will see what happened
Jacob – we had hot water, boiling water, freezing water and cold water. We put sugar in each of the cups. The boiling hot water dissolved the sugar the fastest

Angelo – in the boiling water cup the sugar dissolved the fastest
Jake – it was very inspiring for me and my classmates because I didn't expect the sugar to go in the boiling water and disappear, compared to the other ones where you can still see the sugar
Grace – we all had pieces of paper to write down what we thought about the experiment
Adol – some people think it wouldn't look interesting to do, but it was fun to find out the results
Natasha – the experiment was pretty interesting because after putting the water and the sugar together and stirred it, there wasn't any sugar on the bottom anymore, except for the cold water. Then we put the cold water and the boiling water in the fridge. I wonder what’s going to happen next. Do you know?
